Solapur District is a district in Maharashtra state. The city of Solapur is the district headquarters. It is located on the south east edge of the state and lies entirely in the Bhima and Seena basins. The entire district is drained by the Bhima River. According to the 2011 census Solapur District has a population of 4,315,527.
The presiding deity of Maharashtra, Lord Vitthal is at Pandharpur in this district. Solapur is famous as a textile town and is an important railway junction on the North-South train line.
