Famous Births

1886 - Guru Chenganoor Raman Pillai was born in Chenganoor. He was a prominent Kathakali artist from Kerala. He was famous for his portrayal of the anti-heroic Kathi roles on stage, and was a palace dancer to the Travancore Maharaja.

1905 - Dr. Manubhai P. Vaidya was born. He was an educationist and recipient of Best Teacher Award from Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, The President of India.

1926 - O. P. Nayyar (Omkar Prasad Nayyar) was born in Lahore. He was a film music director and composer.

1946 - Kabir Bedi was born in Punjab. He is a film, television and theatre actor who acted in Bollywood and International films.

Famous Deaths

1901 - Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade died at the age of 58. He was a founding member of the Indian National Congress. He was also a member of the Bombay legislative council, member of the finance committee at the centre, and the judge of Bombay High Court.

1938 - Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay died at the age of 61 in Kolkata, Bengal, British India. He was one of the most popular Bengali novelists and short story writers. His works have been made into about fifty films in many Indian languages, particularly his novel Devdas.
