1848 - Radhanath Ray was born in Kedarpur, Baleswar, Orissa, British India. He was an Oriya poet of initial modernity era in Oriya poetry during the later part of nineteenth century, and is honoured in Oriya literature with the title Kabibara.

1907 - Bhagat Singh was born in Jaranwala Tehsil, Punjab, British India. He was one of the most famous revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. He is an idol for youngsters as well as the inspiration for several films.

1837 - Akbar Shah II died in Delhi at the age of 77. He was the Mughal emperor from 1806 to 1837. He was the second son of Shah Alam II and the father of Bahadur Shah Zafar II.

2004 - Mulk Raj Anand died at the age of in Pune. He was a writer in English, notable for his depiction of the lives of the poorer castes in traditional Indian society. He was honoured with Sahitya Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan.
