Historical Events

1804 - The Battle of Vizagapatam was fought between French and British. It was a minor naval engagement fought near Vizagapatam harbour in the Coastal Andhra region during the Napoleonic Wars. It resulted in French victory.

1883 - Bombay Natural History Society was founded.

Famous Births

1860 - Mokshagundam Visveswaraiah was born at Muddenahalli, Chikballapur, Kingdom of Mysore. He was a notable engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore. He received Bharat Ratna.

1876 - Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was born in Debanandapur, Hooghly, Bengal, British India. He was one of the most popular Bengali novelists and short story writers. His works have been made into about fifty films in many Indian languages, particularly his novel Devdas.

1912 - Rustom Khurshedji Karanjia was born in Quetta (now in Pakistan). He was a journalist and editor. He was founder and owner editor of Blitz a tabloid weekly published from Mumbai.
