1921 - Chinnaswami Subramania Bharati died. He was a Tamil writer, poet, journalist, freedom fighter and social reformer. He is popularly known as Mahakavi Bharathiyar. He is a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry.
1948 - Muhammad Ali Jinnah died. He was a lawyer, politician and statesman, and the founder of Pakistan. He was the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until Pakistan's independence and Pakistan's first Governor-General.
