1670 - Moropant captures Trimbak.

1802 - The Battle of Poona took place near Pune between the rival factions of the Maratha Confederacy. The forces of the Scindia (Shinde) and the Peshwa Bajirao II were attacked by the Holkars. The British East India Company was not involved in the battle, but its outcome and aftermath led to the Second Anglo-Maratha War.

1980 - Sahir Ludhianvi died at the age of 59 in Bombay. He was a famous Urdu poet and Hindi lyricist who worked for Hindi films. He received Padma Shri.

2003 - Pandurang Vaijnath Shastri Athavale died at the age of 83 in Mumbai. He was a philosopher, spiritual leader, social reformer and Hinduism reformist. He founded the Swadhyay Parivar organization. He received Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership, and Padma Vibhushan.

2012 - Actor and comedian Jaspal Singh Bhatti died.
