1871 - Criminal Tribes Act (CTA) was enacted by British, which named over 160 communities "Criminal Tribes", i.e. hereditary criminals.

2008 - Saint Alphonsa, Sister Alphonsa Muttathupadathu, was Vatican City by Pope Benedict XVI. She became first woman of Indian origin to be canonized as a saint.
