Historical Events

1839 - A cyclone hit India with high winds and a 40 foot storm surge, destroying the port city of Coringa in Andhra Pradesh. The storm wave swept inland, taking with it 20,000 ships and thousands of people. An estimated 300,000 deaths resulted from the disaster.

2010 - Nalanda International University came into existence when The Nalanda University Act was implemented.

2011 - Maoists top leader Kishenji is killed in gunbattle with security forces in a forest in West Midnapore district of West Bengal.

1898 - Debaki Bose (Debaki Kumar Bose) was born in Akalpoush, Burdwan, Bengal, British India. He was a top director, writer, actor of Bengali cinema. He is known for his innovative use of sound and music in Indian Cinema.

2011 - Bollywood film "Desi Boyz" directed by Rohit Dhawan starring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Chitrangada Singh and Omi Vaidya was released.
