1664 - Construction of Sindhudurg on small island named Kurte near Malvan was completed by Shivaji Maharaj.

1926 - Sri Aurobindo retired into seclusion and the Mother (Mirra_Alfassa) founded his ashram (Sri Aurobindo Ashram). She became the spiritual guide of the community.

Famous Births

1877 - "Khan Bahadur" Kavasji Jamshedji Petigara was born. He was the first Indian to become the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Mumbai Police in 1928.

Famous Deaths

2005 - Jamuna Baruah died at the age of 86 in Calcutta. She was a heroine in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi films. She was the wife of famous actor director Pramathesh Barua.
