2011 - Suspense continues over arrest of DMK MP Kanimozhi with a special court reserving for May 14 its orders on her bail application after CBI strongly objected to it saying her "complicity" in the alleged bribe given to Kalaignar TV in the 2G scam was clear.

2012 - Indian athletes won four Gold, one Silver and four Bronze medals at Asian Grand Prix.

Famous Births

1916 - Chinmayananda Saraswati (known as Swami Chinmayananda and born Balakrishna Menon) was born. He was a spiritual leader and teacher who inspired the formation of Chinmaya Mission in 1953 to spread the message of Vedanta.

1925 - G. S. Amur (Gururaja Shyamacharya Amur) was born. He is a professor of literature, writer and critic in Kannada and English. He received Sahitya Akademi Award.

Famous Deaths

1777 - Mir Qasim (Mir Kasim Ali Khan) died at Kotwal near Delhi. He was the Nawab of Bengal from 1760 to 1763.
