1896 - V. K. Krishna Menon (Vengalil Krishnan Krishna Menon) was born. He was a nationalist, diplomat and statesman. He was the member of Lokh Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He was Indian Ambassador to the United Nations and Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Famous Deaths

1969 - Dr. Zakir Hussain died. He was the third President of India from 13 May 1967 until his death on 3 May 1969. He also held the positions of Governor of Bihar and Vice President of India.

2005 - Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora died at the age of 89 in New Delhi. He was the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He led the ground forces campaign in the Eastern front of the war, which led to an overwhelming defeat of the Pakistan Army and the creation of Bangladesh.
