1967 - Dr. Zakir Hussain was born. He was the third President of India from 13 May 1967 until his death on 3 May 1969. He also held the positions of Governor of Bihar and Vice President of India.

Famous Deaths

1947 - Sukanta Bhattacharya died at the age of 20 in Calcutta. He was a Bengali poet and playwright. He is one of the prominent figures of modern Bengali poetry.

2001 - R. K. Narayan (Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami) died at the age of 94 in Chennai. He was a author of the famous series of books about people and their interactions in an imagined town in India called Malgudi. He received Padma Vibhushan, Sahitya Akademi Award, AC Benson Medal, and Padma Bhushan.
