Historical Events

1800 - The British Indian Government established the Fort William College to promote Urdu, Hindi and other vernaculars.

1806 - The Vellore Mutiny is the first instance of a mutiny by Indian sepoys against the British East India Company.

2011 - At least 38 passengers were killed and about 210 injured as 15 bogies of a Kalka Mail derailed near Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh.

2000 - Vakkom Majeed (S. Abdul Majeed) died at the age of 90 in Vakkom, Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala. He was a freedom fighter, politician and a former member of the Travancore-Cochin State Assembly.
