1592 - Mughal emperor Shah Jahan was born as Prince Shihab-ud-din Muhammad Khurram. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan as the third and favorite son of the emperor Jahangir and his wife Gossaini who was a Rajput.

1893 - Paramahansa Yogananda (Mukunda Lal Ghosh) was born in Gorakhpur, British India. He was a yogi and guru who introduced many westerners to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga through his book named Autobiography of a Yogi.

1941 - Mansoor Ali Khan (Mansur Ali Khan or M. A. K. Pataudi) was born in Bhopal, British India. He was a cricketer and former captain of the Indian cricket team. He was the ninth Nawab of Pataudi until 1971 when India abolished royal entitlements. Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is his son.

1986 - Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is a Bollywood actress and model. She also appeared in Tamil and Kannada films. She is the daughter of badminton player Prakash Padukone. She received Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her role in her Bollywood debut film Om Shanti Om.

1952 - Victor Alexander John Hope was died at the age of 64 in South Queensferry, Linlithgowshire, Scotland. He was the Governor-General and Viceroy of India from 1936 to 1943.
