1842 - Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade was born in Niphad, Nasik District, Maharashtra. He was a founding member of the Indian National Congress. He was also a member of the Bombay legislative council, member of the finance committee at the centre, and the judge of Bombay High Court.

1927 - Sundaram Balachander was born in Madras. He was a self-taught veena player and film producer, director, music director, actor, singer, playback singer and dancer. He received Padma Bhushan from Government of India.

1972 - Vinod Kambli (Vinod Ganpat Kambli) was born in Mumbai. He is a former Indian cricketer who played for India as well as for Mumbai and Boland, South Africa. He is childhood friend of the Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

1976 - Subhrajit Mitra was born. He is a Bengali film documentary director.

1985 - Minissha Lamba was born in Haryana. She is a Bollywood actress. She made her debut with Yahaan in 2005.

Famous Deaths

1996 - Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) died at the age of 72 in Hyderabad. He was a legendary Telugu film hero. He was also a director, producer, and politician who served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for three terms. He received Padma Sri.

2003 - Harivansh Rai Bachchan (Harivansh Rai Shrivastav) died in Mumbai at the age of 95. He was a famous poet of Chhayavaad literary movement of early 20th century Hindi literature. He is the father of Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan.
