1839 - Tea from India for the first time arrives in United Kingdom.

2011 - India joins a select group of nations manufacturing warplanes with home-grown Light Combat Aircraft Tejas moving a step closer to its induction into the IAF after getting its Initial Operational Clearance.

1894 - Pingali Lakshmikantam was born in Arthamuru, West Godavari district, British India. He was a Telugu language poet and writer.

1940 - K. J. Yesudas (Kattassery Joseph Yesudas) was born in Fort Kochi, Cochin. He is a playback singer and composer. He rendered more than 50,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English. He received many awards inlcuding Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and seven National Awards for Best Playback Singer.

1949 - Tollywood producer and distributor Allu Aravind was born. He is the son of famous Tollywood comedian Allu Ramalingaiah and brother in law of Mega Star Chiranjeevi, famous Tollywood hero and politician. His son Allu Arjun is also a hero in Tollywood.

1966 - Murali Nair was born in Anandapuram, Kerala. He is a film director and screenwriter. His film Marana Simhasanam won the Camera d'Or Award.

1974 - Hrithik Roshan was born in Mumbai. He is a famous Bollywood hero. He also appeared as a child actor in many films. His father Rakesh Roshan acted as hero in films earlier and currently a producer and director.

1999 - Sanjeev Nanda (business man) kills three policemen in New Delhi with his car, for which he was later acquitted.

2011 - Vivek Shauq was died in Mumbai at the age of 47. He was a noted actor, comedian, writer and singer. He had acted in Hindi and Punjabi films, television serials, theatre and television commercials.
