1911 - Henry Piquet, flying a Humber biplane, carried mail from Allahabad to Naini junction which was the first flight in India.

2011 - CBI moves Supreme Court challenging an Allahabad High Court order that dropped charges of criminal conspiracy against top BJP leaders including L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

2011 - Bollywood film "7 Khoon Maaf" directed by Vishal Bharadwaj starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Priyanka Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, John Abraham, Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma was released.

Famous Births

1486 - Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born in Nabadwip, Nadia, West Bengal. He was a Vaishnava saint and social reformer worshipped by followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism as the full incarnation of Lord Krishna. He was a notable proponent for the Vaishnava school of Bhakti yoga. He popularised the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha mantra.

1836 - Ramakrishna Paramhamsa (born as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay) was born. His religious school of thought led to the formation of the Ramakrishna Mission by his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda.

1860 - Malayapuram Singaravelu Chettiar was born. He founded the first trade union in India. He was a freedom fighter initially under the leadership of Gandhi, later joined the communist movement.

1926 - Nalini Jaywant was born. She was a Bollywood actress who acted in films in the 1940s and 1950s.

1868 - Sanatan Dharma Dhurandar Acharya Maharaj Shree 1008 Ayodyaprasadji Maharaj passed away. He was the first Acharya of the NarNarayan Dev Gadi of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.
