1853 - Haraprasad Shastri (Haraprasad Bhattacharya) was born. He was an academic, Sanskrit scholar, archivist and historian of Bengali literature. He is famous for discovering the Charyapada, the earliest known examples of Bengali literature.
1911 - Dinesh Chandra Gupta (Dinesh Gupta) was born. He was a freedom fighter. Revolutionaries trained by him were responsible for the assassination of three District Magistrates.
1782 - Hyder Ali was died in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. He was the sultan and de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore.
1956 - Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar died at the age of 65 in Delhi. He was a jurist, political leader, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, orator, economist, teacher, editor, writer, revolutionary and a revivalist for Buddhism in India. He was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.
