1919 - The House of Commons passes the Montague Chelmsford Reforms or the Government of India Act, 1919. The new reforms under this Act came into operation in 1921.
2008 - Vilasrao Deshmukh's second term as Chief Minister of Maharashtra ends.
1950 - Sri Aurobindo (Aurobindo Ghosh) died at the age of 78 in Pondicherry, French India. He was a nationalist, freedom fighter, philosopher, yogi, guru, and poet. In 1926, with the help of his spiritual collaborator, Mirra Alfassa, he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
2001 - Dharam Singh died in Chandigarh. He was a field hockey player who was part of the gold medal winning team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. He was the team coach of the team that won the gold medal at Tokyo in 1964.
2009 - Satyananda Saraswati was born. He was a yoga teacher and spiritual guru. He founded the International Yoga Fellowship and the Bihar School of Yoga. He wrote Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha, which is one of the most systematic yoga manuals.
