1850 - Pusapati Ananda Gajapati Raju was born. He was a Rajah of the Vizianagaram kingdom in Andhra Pradesh. He was granted the personal title of Maharajah. He was a Member of the Madras Legislative Council.
1908 - Isha Basant Joshi (born as Isha Basant Mukand and published books under the name of Esha Joshi) was born in Lucknow. She was the first woman to be accepted as an officer in the Indian Administrative Service.
1926 - Syed Zahoor Qasim was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He is a prominent marine biologist. He lead India's exploration to Antarctica and guided the other seven expeditions from 1981 to 1988. He was a Member of the Planning Commission of India from 1991 to 1996. He received Padma Shri and Padma Bushan.
1926 - Jaggaiah (Kongara Jaggaiah) was born in Tenali, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. He was a noted Telugu film and theater actor. He received Padma Bhushan from Government of India.
2005 - Lakshmi Tatma, a deformed (she is actually one of a pair of ischiopagus conjoined twins) girl with four hands and four legs in Bihar. She underwent a successful separation surgery in Bangalore.
1986 - Raj Narain was died in New Delhi. He was the Minister of Health during Morarji Desai's ministry. Raj Narain was the only politician who defeated Indira Gandhi in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections in Rai Bareli.
