1912 - Bomb thrown on Lord Hardinge on his state entry into Delhi.

1921 - Visvabharati University was inaugurated.

2011 - Bollywood film "Don2: The Chase Continues" directed by Farhan Akhtar starring Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, Allyn Khan, Kunal Kapoor and Om Puri was released.

2012 - Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from ODIs. He had played 463 ODIs scoring 18,426 runs with 49 centuries and 96 half centuries.

1902 - Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh was born in Noorpur, British India. He was the fifth Prime Minister serving from 28 July 1979 until 14 January 1980. He has also held the positions of Minister of Finance, Deputy Prime Minister of India, Minister of Home Affairs and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

1906 - Edasseri Govindan Nair was born. She was a prominent Malayalam poet. His works include 19 books and over 300 poems in 10 anthologies, 6 books of plays and a collection of essays.

1918 - Kumar Valavhadas Pallana, an Indian-born American actor was born.

2004 - Former Prime Minister Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao(PV Narasimha Rao) was died at the age of 83 in New Delhi. He was a lawyer, politician, and activist. He was the ninth Prime Minister of India. He also held the positions of Minister of Defence, Minister of External Affairs, Minister of Home Affairs, and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

2010 - Kannoth Karunakaran was died at the age of 92 in Thiruvananthapuram, Keralaa. He was a senior prominent politician from Kerala belonging to Indian National Congress party and was a close aide of India Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
