1853 - Sarada Devi (Saradamani Mukhopadhyaya) was born in Jayrambati, Bengal, British India. She was the wife and spiritual counterpart of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. She was addressed as the Holy Mother by the followers of the Ramakrishna Movement.
1875 - Nanda Kishore Bal was born at Kusupur village, Cuttack district, Orissa. He was a poet of the era of initial modernity in Oriya poetry. He is popularly known as "Palli Kabi" (the poet of rural life).
1887 - Renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, FRS was born in Erode, Madras Presidency, British India. He made great contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. Ramanujan's birthday is celebrated every year as National Mathematics Day.
