Historical Events

2010 - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao contributed one million US dollars for the Nalanda University during his visit to India.

2012 - A female physiotherapy student was beaten and gang raped in Delhi when she and a male companion boarded a bus in South Delhi in the evening. Public protests took place in Delhi, where thousands of protesters clashed with police, and other force units. Similar protests also took place through out the country in major cities.

1924 - Nissim Ezekiel was born. He was a poet, playwright, editor and art-critic. He received Sahitya Akademi Award.

1950 - India had military victory over Pakistan in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. This day is celebrated as Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) every year.

1982 - Bharat Goyal, a Finance Professional was born.

2011 - Bollywood film "Jo Hum Chahein" directed by Pawan Gill starring Sunny Gill, Simran Mundi, Alyyn Khan, Achint Kaur and Yuri Suri was released.

Famous Deaths

1951 - Amy Wilson Carmichael, a Protestant Christian missionary in India, was died at the age of 83. She opened an orphanage and founded a mission in Dohnavur, Tamil Nadu and served in India for 55 years and wrote many books about the missionary work there.
