1907 - Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi was born in Dube Chhapra Village, Ballia District, Uttar Pradesh. He was a Hindi novelist, literary historian, essayist, critic and scholar. He received Sahitya Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan.

1910 - Saint Alphonsa, Sister Alphonsa Muttathupadathu, was born in Kudamaloor, Arpookara, Travancore State, British Raj. She became first woman of Indian origin to be canonized as a saint.

1993 - Utpal Dutt died at the age of 64 in Kolkata. He was a actor, director, and writer-playwright. He was an actor in Bengali theatre. He acted in more than 100 Bengali and Hindi films. He is remembered for his roles in Hrishikesh Mukherjee films like Gol Maal (1979).

2005 - O. Madhavan died. He was a theatre director and actor. He was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India in Kerala. He was the founder of the renowned drama company Kalidasa Kala Kendram.
