January 28 - O. P. Nayyar (Omkar Prasad Nayyar) died at the age of 81 in Mumbai. He was a film music director and composer.
April 5 - Leela Majumdar was died in Kolkata at the age of 99. She was a Bengali writer. She received Rabindra Puraskar.
April 13 - Dhulipala Seetharama Sastry died. He was a Telugu film and Stage Actor. He was popular for playing mythological roles and particularly the role of Shakuni.
July 8 - Chandra Shekhar Singh died at the age of 80 in New Delhi. He was the eighth Prime Minister of India. He also held the positions of Minister of Defence and Minister of Home Affairs.
August 21 - Qurrat-ul-Ain Haider died at the age of 79 in Noida. She was a Urdu novelist and short story writer. She is famous for her novel "Aag Ka Darya".
October 6 - Babasaheb Anantrao Bhosale died at the Bombay Hospital in Mumbai at the age of 87 years. He was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 21 January 1982, until 1 February 1983.
October 10 - S. R. Bommai (Somappa Rayappa Bommai) died at the age of 84 at Hubli, Karnataka. He was the 11th Chief Minister of Karnataka . He also held the position of Human Resource Development Minister in the United Front government from 1996 to 1998.
December 25 - G.P. Sippy (Gopaldas Parmanand Sippy) died. He was a Bollywood movie producer and director. He has made many super hit Bollywood movies including Sholay. He won the Filmfare Award in 1968 and 1982.
