March 28 - Bansi Lal was died in Delhi. He was a freedom fighter and Chief Minister of Haryana. He served three separate terms as Chief Minister of Haryana.

April 12 - Rajkumar (Singanalluru Puttaswamayya Muthuraju) died at the age of 76 in Bangalore. He was the most famous Kannada film actor and singer. He received Padma Bushan and Dada Saheb Phalke Award.

July 8 - Raja Rao died at the age of 97 in Austin, Texas, United States. He was a writer of English language novels and short stories. He was honoured with Sahitya Akademi Award, Neustadt International Prize for Literature, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

August 21 - Ustad Bismillah Khan died at the age of 90. He was a musician who popularised the shehnai. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2001.
