December 31 - Lakshmi Tatma, a deformed (she is actually one of a pair of ischiopagus conjoined twins) girl with four hands and four legs in Bihar. She underwent a successful separation surgery in Bangalore.

January 3 - Jyotindra Nath Dixit was died at the age of 68 in New Delhi. He was a diplomat who served as Foreign Secretary. He was the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the time of his death.

January 12 - Amrish Puri (Amrish Singh Puri) died at the age of 72 in Mumbai. He was a famous theater and film actor from India. He has acted in many Bollywood films in negative roles. He has also acted into other regional language films and Hollywood films. He received Sangeet Natak Academy Awards and many Filmfare Awards.

March 22 - Gemini Ganesan (Ramaswamy Ganesan) died at the age of 84 in Chennai. He was a Tamil film actor who was nicknamed Kadhal Mannan (King of Romance) for the romantic roles he played in films. He received Padmashree, Kalaimamani, MGR Gold Medal and Screen Lifetime Achievement Award.

April 25 - Swami Ranganathananda (born Shankaran Kutty) died at the age of 96 in Belur Math near Kolkata. He was the 13th president of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. He received Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration and Gandhi Peace Prize conferred on the Ramakrishna Mission.

May 3 - Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora died at the age of 89 in New Delhi. He was the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He led the ground forces campaign in the Eastern front of the war, which led to an overwhelming defeat of the Pakistan Army and the creation of Bangladesh.

May 15 - Mahipal (Mahipal Singh) died at the age of 86 in Mumbai. He was a Bollywood actor who acted in many films of the 1950s and 1960s.

May 21 - Subodh Mukerji died at the age of 84 in Mumbai. He was a famous Bengali film producer and director. He was the brother of the producer director Sashadhar Mukherjee.

August 19 - O. Madhavan died. He was a theatre director and actor. He was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India in Kerala. He was the founder of the renowned drama company Kalidasa Kala Kendram.

October 31 - Amrita Pritam (Amrita Kaur) was died at the age of 86 in Delhi. She was a prominent Punjabi writer, poet, novelist, and essayist. She has written more than 100 books, of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs. She received Sahitya Academy Award, Padma Shri, Padma Vibushan, and Sahitya Academy Fellowship.

November 9 - K. R. Narayanan (Kocheril Raman Narayanan) died at the age of 85 in New Delhi. He was the tenth President of India. He was the first Dalit and the first Malayali to become President.

November 24 - Jamuna Baruah died at the age of 86 in Calcutta. She was a heroine in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi films. She was the wife of famous actor director Pramathesh Barua.
