February 4 - Bhagwan Dada (Bhagwan Abhaji Palav) died at the age of 88 in Mumbai. He was an actor and film director. He is best known for his social film Albela.

March 23 - Piara Singh Gill was born. He was a nuclear physicist who was a pioneer in cosmic ray nuclear physics and worked on the American Manhattan project. He was the first Director of Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) of India.

April 9 - Sikander Bakht was died at the age of 83. He was a politician and Freedom Fighter. He was one of the prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.

July 27 - Krishan Kant died at the age of 75. He was the tenth Vice President of India from 1997 until his death. He also held the positions of Governor of Tamil Nadu and Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
