January 6 - Kishan Shrikanth (known as Kishan SS or Master Kishan) was born in Bangalore. He is a film actor and director. His name included in Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest director of a professionally made feature length film.

Famous Deaths

December - P. K. Venugopalan Nambiar died. He was an agricultural scientist who had a major role in the development of the first hybrid variety of black pepper in the world, Panniyur-1.

January 18 - Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) died at the age of 72 in Hyderabad. He was a legendary Telugu film hero. He was also a director, producer, and politician who served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for three terms. He received Padma Sri.

July 3 - Raaj Kumar (Kulbushan Pandit) died at the age of 69 in Mumbai. He was a Bollywood actor. He acted in more than 70 films.

July 29 - Aruna Asaf Ali (Aruna Ganguly) died at the age of 87. She was a freedom fighter. She received International Lenin Peace Prize, Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding, Padma Vibhushan, and Bharat Ratna.
