April 10 - Morarji Ranchhodji Desai died at the age of 99 in New Delhi. He was a freedom fighter and the fourth Prime Minister of India. He was the first Prime Minister to head the first non-Congress Government.
August 21 - Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, FRS died at the age of 84 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He was an Indian-American astrophysicist who, with William A. Fowler, won the 1983 Nobel Prize for Physics for key discoveries that led to the currently accepted theory on the later evolutionary stages of massive stars. The Chandrasekhar limit is named after him. He was the nephew of Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930.
