January 3 - Naresh Iyer was in Chennai. He is a playback singer who has rendered songs in several languages. His song Roobaroo from Rang De Basanti won him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer.

September 24 - Brahmarishi Hussain Sha was born Pithapuram, Andhra Pradesh. He was the seventh head of Sri Viswa Viznana Vidya Adhyatmika Peetham in Pithapuram. He succeeded his father, Kavisekhara Dr Umar Alisha Sathguru. He was a scholar in Telugu, Arabic, Urdu, Persian and Sanskrit.

December 26 - Legendary Telugu film actress Savitri (Kommareddy Savitri) was died in Chennai aged 46. She was a versatile actress, director and producer. She had appeared in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films.

December 26 - Former President of India Shankar Dayal Sharma was died in New Delhi at the age of 81. He was the ninth President of India serving from 1992 to 1997. Prior to that he was eighth Vice President of India. He also held the position of Chief Minister and Cabinet Minister.

December 28 - David Abraham Cheulkar (popularly known as David) died at the age of 73 in Toronto, Canada. He was a Hindi film actor. He acted in more than 110 films. He received Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1955 for his role in the film Boot Polish.
