January 9 - Farhan Akhtar was born in Mumbai. He is a Bollywood director, screenwriter, producer, actor, playback singer, lyricist and television host. He is the son of famous lyricist Javed Akhtar.

January 10 - Hrithik Roshan was born in Mumbai. He is a famous Bollywood hero. He also appeared as a child actor in many films. His father Rakesh Roshan acted as hero in films earlier and currently a producer and director.

December 25 - Heroine Nagma (born as Nandita Morarji) was born in Mumbai. She was one of the top heroines in Telugu and Tamil films in 1990s. She has acted in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, and Marathi films.

December - Kshetresa Chandra Chattopadhyaya died. He was a scholar of Sanskrit, Veda, grammar, Pali, Prakrit and philology. He was the editor of book series Sarasvati Bhavana Granthamala and famous Sanskrit Journal Sarasvati Susama.

December - Rev. Dr. Matthew Pothen Thekaekara died. He was a scientist and author of many books and papers relating to spectrophotometry and the solar constant besides works on theology.

December - Shankara Ram. M. Varadarajan died. He was a Tamil novelist.

February 4 - Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose FRS was died in Calcutta at the age of 80. He is a Bengali physicist specializing in mathematical physics. He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics, providing the foundation for Bose-Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose-Einstein condensate.

February 13 - Ustad Amir Khan died. He was a classical vocalist. He is considered one of the most famous figure in Hindustani classical music, and the founder of the Indore Gharana.

March 7 - J. P. Chandrababu (Joseph Panimayadas Rodriguez Chandrababu) died. He was a famous Tamil film comedian-actor, singer and dancer.

September 23 - Maharaja Sri Sir Jaya Chamarajendra Wodeyar Bahadur died in Bangalore. He was the 25th and the last Maharaja of the princely state of Mysore from 1940 to 1950. He was also a philosopher, musicologist, political thinker and philanthropist.
