January 2 - Kirti Azad (Kirtivardhan Bhagwat Jha Azad) was born in Purnea, Bihar. He is a former cricketer who played for India in seven Tests and 25 ODIs. He is the son of Bhagwat Jha Azad, former Chief Minister of Bihar. He is currently serving his second term in the Lok Sabha and previously he was an MLA.

January 6 - Kapil Dev (Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj) was born in Chandigarh Punjab. He was a former cricketer and captain of the Indian cricket team which won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Wisden named him as the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002. He also received Padma Sri, Padma Bushan, Arjuna Awards and inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

November 1 - M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar (Mayavaram Krishnamurthy Thyagaraja Bhagavathar), also called M.K.T., died at the age of 58 in Madras. He was a prominent Tamil film actor, producer and Carnatic music singer.
