December 29 - Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna (Jatin Khanna) was born in Burewala, West Punjab, British India. He was an actor, film producer and politician. He is regarded as the first superstar and the original superstar of Indian cinema.

April 24 - Dinanath Mangeshkar died at the age of 41 in Pune. He was a prominent Marathi theatre actor, Natya Sangeet musician and Hindustani classical vocalist. He is the father of famous Bollywood singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.
