Famous Births

January 1 - Bollywood famous comedian Asrani (Govardhan Asrani) was born in Jaipur. He has acted in 350 Bollywood films and 50 Gujarati films. He has also directed six films and acted in lead role in some Gujarati films.

January 4 - Shri Kalpnath Rai was born in Semari Jamalpur village of Mau district Uttar Pradesh. He was a member of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He was minister at the centre and was a senior Congress Leader.

January 5 - Mansoor Ali Khan (Mansur Ali Khan or M. A. K. Pataudi) was born in Bhopal, British India. He was a cricketer and former captain of the Indian cricket team. He was the ninth Nawab of Pataudi until 1971 when India abolished royal entitlements. Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is his son.

Famous Deaths

Binodini Dasi (Notee Binodini) died at the age of 79. She was a Calcutta based famous actress and thespian.

K. Narayana Sivaraja Pillai died. He was a historian, dravidologist and professor from the erstwhile Madras Presidency. Sivaraja Pillai was regarded as a pioneer of the study of ancient verbal terminations.

March 28 - "Khan Bahadur" Kavasji Jamshedji Petigara died. He was the first Indian to become the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Mumbai Police in 1928.

August 7 - Rabindranath Thakur died at the age of 80 in Calcutta. He was a famous poet and musician. He became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.

November 9 - Sir Ganganath Jha was born. He was a scholar of Sanskrit, Indian Philosophy and Buddhist Philosophy.
