January 3 - Yashawant Dinkar Phadke (Y. D. Phadke) was born in Solapur. He was a historian and a political activist.

June 10 - M.S. Gopalakrishnan (MSG) was born in Mylapore, Chennai. He was a violinist of Carnatic music. He was a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, Padma Sri, Kalaimamani, Sangeetha Kalanidhi and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards.

October 21 - Shammi Kapoor (Shamsher Raj Prithviraj Kapoor) was born in Peshawar, British India. He was a prominent Bollywood hero and director. He is the younger brother of another prominent Bollywood hero Raj Kapoor.

Famous Deaths

January 4 - Mohammad Ali Jouhar was died. He was an Muslim leader, activist, scholar, journalist and poet, and was the leaders of the Khilafat Movement. He was the President of Indian National Congress and one of the founders of the All India Muslim League and was also the president of the All India Muslim League.

March 23 - Sukhdev Thapar was hanged in Lahore jail with his fellow comrades Bhagat Singh and Rajguru. He was a freedom fighter who was a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. He was accompanying with Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru who were involved in the assassination of Deputy Superintendent of Police J.P. Saunders.

March 23 - Bhagat Singh was hanged on 23 March 1931 in Lahore jail with his fellow comrades Rajguru and Sukhdev. He was one of the most famous revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. He is an idol for youngsters as well as the inspiration for several films.

March 23 - Shivaram Rajguru (Shivaram Hari Rajguru) was hanged by British. He was a freedom fighter. He along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev took part in the murder of a British police officer J.P. Saunders.

July 7 - Dinesh Chandra Gupta (Dinesh Gupta) was hanged on at Alipore Jail. He was a freedom fighter. Revolutionaries trained by him were responsible for the assassination of three District Magistrates.

November 17 - Haraprasad Shastri (Haraprasad Bhattacharya) died. He was an academic, Sanskrit scholar, archivist and historian of Bengali literature. He is famous for discovering the Charyapada, the earliest known examples of Bengali literature.
