Historical Events

Vazir Sultan Tobacco Company, Charminar cigarette factory was started.

January 26 - The Indian National Congress declared 26 January as Independence Day, or the day for Poorna Swaraj (Complete Independence).

March 2 - Gandhi informed British viceroy of India that civil disobedience would begin nine days later.

March 12 - Gandhi started a 200-mile protest march towards the sea with 78 followers to protest the British monopoly on salt.

April 5 - Mahatma Gandhi breaks British law after marching to the sea and making salt.

April 30 - Salt Satyagraha has been conducted in South India by Rajaji and Sardar A vedaratnam Pillai.

May 4 - Mohandas Karamchandi Gandhi was arrested.

December 8 - Dinesh Gupta along with Benoy Basu and Badal Gupta, dressed in European costume, entered the Writers Building and shot dead Col NS Simpson (the Inspector General of Prisons).

Joseph "Kaka" Baptista died. He was a politician and activist from Bombay. He was closely associated with the Lokmanya Tilak and the Home Rule Movement. He was elected as the Mayor of Bombay in 1925.
