February 18 - Henry Piquet, flying a Humber biplane, carried mail from Allahabad to Naini junction which was the first flight in India.

March 25 - L.D. Swamikannu published "Manual of Indian Chronology" in Bombay.

July 29 - Mohun Bagan was the first Indian team and the first Asian team to have defeated a foreign team when they won the 1911 IFA Shield defeating East Yorkshire Regiment 2-1 to lift the IFA SHIELD.

August 29 - The Diocese of Kottayam (Kerala) was erected for the Knanaya Catholic people of the Syro-Malabar Church. In 2005 the diocese was raised to the rank of Archdiocese.

December 11 - Coronation of George V of the United Kingdom and Mary of Teck in New Delhi as Emperor of India and Empress consort respectively.

December 12 - The Delhi Durbar is held, formally announcing the coronation of King George V, and his assumption of title Emperor of India.

December 12 - The capital of India is shifted to New Delhi from Calcutta.

December 27 - The Jana Gana Mana is sung for the first time at the Indian National Congress annual convention at Calcutta.

Rappal Sangameswaraier Krishnan was born at Rappal,Thrissur District. He was a great scientist and researcher.

Narayan Dattatraya Apte was born. He was a Hindu activist and entrepreneur who was executed for his role in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

July 25 - Akhandananda Saraswati (Maharajshri Akhandananda Saraswati) was born in the village of Maharai in the district of Varanasi. He was an exponent of Bhagavata Purana and a scholar of diverse spiritual traditions including Vedanta, Bhakti, and associated Shastras.

July 31 - Pannalal Ghosh (Amal Jyoti Ghosh) was born. He was a prominent Bengali flute (bansuri) player and composer. He was a disciple of Allauddin Khan.

September 20 - Shriram Sharma was born. He was a social reformer, philosopher, visionary of the New Golden Era, and founder of "All World Gayatri Pariwar", which has its headquarters at Shantikunj, Haridwar.

October 11 - Lala Amarnath (Nanik Amarnath Bhardwaj) was born. He was the first cricketer to score a Test century for the Indian cricket team, which he achieved on debut. He was independent India's first Test captain.

October 12 - Vijaysingh Madhavji Merchant (Vijay Madhavji Thakersey) was born. He played 10 Test matches for India. His batting average in first class cricket is 71.64, which is the second highest average in Frist Class cricket behind Don Bradman.

October 13 - Ashok Kumar (Kumudlal Ganguly, also known as Dadamoni) was born. He was a famous Bollywood actor. He received Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Bhushan Award.

October 28 - Piara Singh Gill was born. He was a nuclear physicist who was a pioneer in cosmic ray nuclear physics and worked on the American Manhattan project. He was the first Director of Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) of India.

December 6 - Dinesh Chandra Gupta (Dinesh Gupta) was born. He was a freedom fighter. Revolutionaries trained by him were responsible for the assassination of three District Magistrates.

Famous Deaths

August 29 - Asaf Jah VI Mir Mahboob Ali Khan Siddiqi died. He was the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad. He ruled Hyderabad state between 1869 and 1911.
