February 12 - Viceroy of India Lord Curzon created the new North-West Frontier Province in the north of the Punjab region, bordering Afghanistan.
March 1 - M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar (Mayavaram Krishnamurthy Thyagaraja Bhagavathar), also called M.K.T., was born in Mayiladuthurai, Tanjore district, Madras Presidency, British India. He was a prominent Tamil film actor, producer and Carnatic music singer.
July 2 - Kalindi Charan Panigrahi was born. He was a famous Oriya poet, novelist, story writer, dramatist, and essayist. He was one of the members of the Oriya literary group Sabuja Goshthi. He received fellowship of Sahitya Academy and Padma Bhushan Award.
November 3 - Prithviraj Kapoor was born. He was a theatre and film actor. He started his career as an actor, in the silent era of Hindi cinema and founded the Prithvi Theatres. He is the father of legendary Bollywood hero Raj Kapoor.
January 16 - Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade died at the age of 58. He was a founding member of the Indian National Congress. He was also a member of the Bombay legislative council, member of the finance committee at the centre, and the judge of Bombay High Court.
January 22 - Queen Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria) died. She was the Empress of India from 1876 to 1901.
