Ambalal Balkrishna Purani (A.B. Purani) was born. He was a prominent disciple and biographer of Sri Aurobindo.

January 1 - Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose FRS was born in Calcutta. He is a Bengali physicist specializing in mathematical physics. He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics, providing the foundation for Bose-Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose-Einstein condensate.

January 10 - Pingali Lakshmikantam was born in Arthamuru, West Godavari district, British India. He was a Telugu language poet and writer.

February 21 - Sir Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar was born in Shahpur, British India. He was a famous scientist. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was set up under the chairmanship of Dr. Bhatnagar. After his death, CSIR established the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award for scientists in his honour.

February 25 - Meher Baba (Merwan Sheriar Irani) was born. He was a spiritual master. He declared publicly in 1954 that he was the Avatar of the age.

April 10 - Ghanshyam Das (G.D. Birla) was born in Pilani village, Rajputana. He was a businessman and member of the Birla Family. Birla was a close associate and a supporter of Mahatma Gandhi.

May 20 - Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal (Sage of Kanchi) was born. He was the 68th Jagadguru in the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. He is usually referred to as Paramacharya, Mahaswami or Maha Periyavaal.

December 3 - Deiva Zivarattinam was born. He represented Pondicherry in the French Constituent Assembly election in 1945.
