September 5 - Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in a village near to Thiruttani, Madras Province. He was the first Vice President of India and the second President of India. Radhakrishan was awarded the Bharat Ratna. His birthday is celebrated in India as Teachers' Day on 5 September.
October 19 - Venkatarama Ramalingam Pillai was born at Namakkal, Madras Presidency. He was a Tamil poet and freedom fighter. He is well known for his poems about independence.
November 7 - Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was born. He was a physicist whose work was influential in the growth of science in India. He received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930 for the discovery that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the light that is deflected changes in wavelength. This phenomenon is now called Raman scattering and is the result of the Raman effect.
