January 16 - Guru Chenganoor Raman Pillai was born in Chenganoor. He was a prominent Kathakali artist from Kerala. He was famous for his portrayal of the anti-heroic Kathi roles on stage, and was a palace dancer to the Travancore Maharaja.

August 16 - Ramakrishna Paramhamsa (born as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay) passed away in Kolkata at the age of 0. His religious school of thought led to the formation of the Ramakrishna Mission by his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda.
