April 14 - Abdullah Yusuf Ali was born. He was an Islamic scholar who translated the Quran into English. His translation of the Quran is one of the most widely known and used in the English-speaking world.
August 15 - Sri Aurobindo (Aurobindo Ghosh) was born in Calcutta. He was a nationalist, freedom fighter, philosopher, yogi, guru, and poet. In 1926, with the help of his spiritual collaborator, Mirra Alfassa, he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
