May 7 - Rabindranath Thakur was born Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India. He was a famous poet and musician. He became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.

June 18 - Devaki Nandan Khatri born at Muzaffarpur, Bengal Presidency. He was a writer. He was the first author of mystery novels in Hindi. Chandrakanta is the most popular of his works.

September 24 - Bhikaiji Rustom Cama was born in Bombay. She was a prominent freedom fighter.
