Nearest Town from this village is Coimbatore. From Palakkad town lots of buses are there to this village, also from Coimbatore and Pollachi buses are there. Basically all are farmers in this village. some are educated and they left the village to the nearest cities for better living. St.Martin's convent high school is there and government upper primary school is also there.
HISTORY
In early days this village was full of fycus (athi) trees. Hence it was named Athikadu whi later became Athicode.
Around 300 years before this village belonged to the forest region of valayar with high density of ficus(athi) trees and teak.
In those days this region was ruled by “Sondathu” angarathu kings. Its also believed there was “elephant koppam” – used to capture elephant. In the beginning three families came to this village and settled here. The families are as follows:
- Rauthar family from Ayakkad
- Noolkarar family from kambakkudi
- Forefather of Andi
It is said that these three families cleared the forest areas of this region and settled here by building homes.
In earlier days a dreadful disease “Cholera” spread through out his village and many people died of this disease. In these days a god loving person named “Mastan Sahib” who has superior powers came from Ooty and stayed in this village.
All the elderly persons of this village approached this mahan to pray for the eradication of the disease. It is told that the by the prayers of this holy man, the cholera disease was eradicated from this village and the people got relief. Since then the disease has not affected this village.
The body of Mastan Sahib is buried in the burial ground at athicode koottu patha. In this village even today a lot of Islamic rituals like Kanduri, ratheep, payan and free sunnath are conducted in his name every year. In this festivals people belonging to all faith and community of this village takes part. This shows the brotherhood prevailing among the peoples of this village.
The village now has more than 500 families in it.
