Yatokthakkari Temple - Tiruvekka

Yatokthakkari Temple is situated at Tiruvekka in Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu. The main deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu in the form of Yatokthakkari (Sonnavannam Seida Perumal). Facing east, the deity is seen in reclining pose. There is a separate shrine for Komalavalli Naachiyaar. The temple celebrates the birthday of Poigaialwar in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October-November). The main festival is the Vaikunda Ekadasi which lasts for 22 days in the Tamil month of Marghazhi (December-January). The temple can be easily approached from all parts of Kanchipuram. 'Gajendra Moksham' is believed to occured near this temple. According to the legend, an elephant used to pray the god everyday with flowers. One day while the elephant went into water to fetch a lotus, a crocodile caught his leg. Elephant prayed the god to protect him. Then Lord Vishnu appeared and killed the crocodile with his Chakra and saved the elephant.
