This interesting temple dedicated both to Siva and Vishnu, is situated at a distance of 55 K.M. from Tirunelveli, midway between Tenkasi and Srivilliputur.

There are three separatew shrines in this temple.The first ecshires Gomathi Amman, the second Sankaranarayana and the third a Lingam. The image of Sankaranarayana is half Siva and half Vishnu, illustrating the truth that Siva and Vishnu are but one.

The legend says that Gomathi Amman. The consort of Siva wanted to see Siva and Vishnu as one and the same muti. She went on penance for 9 days in the month of Adi and on the fullmoon days Lord Siva gave her thae darsan of Sankaranarayana. In commemoration of this the Adi Tapas is conducted as a great festival. Thousands of piligrims from the neighbouring places gather for it. It is believed thet many praying at the feet of Gomathi Amman.
