Bokaro is one of the twenty-two districts of Jharkhand state. The District Bokaro of the Jharkhand State was created in the year 1991 by carving out one subdivision consisting of two blocks from Dhanbad District and six blocks from Giridih District.
Bokaro is a small river which flows into the Konar, a tributary of Damodar. A village by the name of Bokaro lies on the northern bank of the Konar. It is here that Bokaro Thermal Power Station of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is located which is at a distance of 28 Kms west of the Chandrapura Thermal Station also of DVC, on the northern bank of Damodar. The Tenughat Dam, which is the source of industrial water for the steel plant rises on the Damodar. The Dam on the Garga the source of drinking water for the steel city is due south of tenughat at an aerial distance of about 27 Kms. BSL is located on the site where formerly a village by the name of Maraphari existed. It was connected to a railway station also known as Maraphari on the Muri Chandrapura line on the south eastern railways. With the coming up of the Steel Plant the station was renamed as Bokaro Steel City. The Govt. Of India & Bihar and Bokaro Steel Limited at a meeting on Sep12, 1964 decided to name the steel township as Bokaro Steel City.

Bokaro Steel City: As the fourth integrated steel plant in the Public Sector, Bokaro Steel City was conceived in 1959. Bokaro Steel Plant actually started taking shape in 1965 with the collaboration of the then United Sovereign Of Soviet Republic. Major coalfields are located nearby. Bokaro City was built to provide housing and other community facilities for the plant's employees.
Garga Dam And Parasnath Hills: Bokaro City is located in picturesque surroundings on the southern bank of river Damodar with Garga, one of its tributaries meandering along the southern and eastern outskirts of the city. On the north, the city is flanked by the high ranges of the Parasnath Hills and on the south just beyond the river Garga, it is enveloped by the Satanpur hillocks.
Bokaro Ispat Pustakalaya: Located near Bokaro Niwas, it has a collection of over 40,000 books that meets the reading requirements of the people in the township.
City Park: Bokaro has a well-maintained City Park with an artificial lake. Recently three artificial islands have also been created.
Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park: A Biological Park named after Jawaharlal Nehru with a variety of animals and birds and a modern aquarium is another attraction located in sector 5.
Babudih: A village in Chas Block famous for 75 feet high tower.
Chandrapura: A town famous for Chandrapura Thermal Power Station.
TenuGhat: Headquarter Of Bermo SubDivision Famous for Tenughat Dam And Tenughat Thermal Power Station.
