Assam

Assam is a state/Union Territory of India.

Assam is a northeastern state of India. Assam is the gateway to the northeastern part of India. Situated between 90-96 degree East Longitute and 24-28 degree North Latitude. Dispur is the capital of Assam. It is located on the outskirts of Guwahati city. Assam is located south of the eastern Himalayas and comprises the Brahmaputra and the Barak river valleys along with the Karbi Anglong and the North Cachar Hills. It covers an area of 30,285 square miles (78,438 km). Assam is surrounded by six of the other Seven Sister States (Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya). Assam is bordered in the North and East by the Kingdom of Bhutan and Bangladesh to her West.

Assam is one of the richest biodiversity zones in the world and consists of tropical rainforests, deciduous forests, riverine grasslands, bamboo orchards and numerous wetland ecosystems. Many are now protected as national parks and reserved forests. There are five national parks in Assam that include Kaziranga, Manas, Dibru, Saikhowa, Nameri, and Orang. There are 18 wildlife sanctuaries in Assam. They are Pobitora, Sonai Rupai, Bura-Chapori, Laokhowa, Pobha or Milroy, Chakrashila, Bornadi, Garampani, Gibbon, Nambor, East Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Pani Dihing, Deeporbeel, Bordoibum Beelmukh, Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni, and Morat Longri.

The Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Guwahati is 18 km from the city centre and is well connected to most of the metros in the country. There are regular flights to Guwahati running all year long on daily basis. Assam has a convenient railway network connecting the state to the rest of the country. There are train services from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum. A network of National Highways and other roads connect Guwahati with all the important places of Assam and India. It is the connector city of NH - 31, 37 and 40 with the other cities of India by road.

Kamakhya Temple is a powerful Shakti Temple of Mother Goddess Kamakhya is situated on the top of the Nilachal Hills overlooking the majestic river Brahmaputra in the city of Guahati. It is 8 Km. away from the railway station of Guwahati.

Nabagraha Temple is the temple of nine planets. It is situated on Chitrachal Hill in Guwahati. In ancient times, it was said to have been a great centre of study of astronomy and astrology. Guwahati is referred to as Pragjyotishpur or the city of eastern Astrology due to this place. It is 3 km away from the railway station.
