2010 - Jyoti Basu died at the age of 95 in Kolkata. He was a Bengali politician belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) who served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister of any state of India.

1908 - L. V. Prasad (Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasada Rao) was born in Somavarapadu, Eluru, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. He was a film producer, actor, director, cinematographer and businessman. He was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema and received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
